The mighty street sweeper - Rafael Tuzon ;)

I was inspired to the story of this simple guy who lives a simple life. He became a father at a very young age but unfortunately, her girlfriend's parents don’t want him to be tied up to their daughter. From then on, the mother of his first child was separated to him. Of course, it became so hard for him but he doesn’t have any choice but to accept this fact and go on with his life but there are a lot of times that he would missed his family. Despite all the trials that he encounters he remained stick to his principle and trust God that whatever happen, happens. And in Gods’ time everything in his life will be settled.


Put a Smile in Your Face - Dra.Vianca Catangal


At a first glance, this speaker looks scary because when I was still a child, I really had fear on my dentist because they hurt me (knowing that it is for the better! Ha-ha!) until now, that I came to realize that having a good oral hygiene form the very start is a must, we should take care of our teeth because it has great factor in building our impression top other people. The next thing I knew is that I should visit my dentist immediately for my cleaning and my braces to be adjust. ~3

More than a decade server ;)

“Saludo kami sayo Manang!”, that is the first thing that pop into my mind while doing this blog, I never imagined that there would be someone who could serve two master at the same time with integrity. She serves her family and the school with the best that she could give. Basing on her story, she had been a good mother to her family and did everything to make her family live a life that she never experienced. As the commercial says, “mother knows best!”


DJ Tyra on the block

I once dreamed of being a disc jockey like her that’s why look at me now, a call center representative! (ha-ha! Atleast ngsasalita ng bonggang bongga prin trabaho ko!) Well, DJ Tyra shared to us her knowledge about her work which will probably be our work after college – being a DJ is never easy because you should have a good communication skill and you should also know how to entertain listeners so that they would not be bored throughout your program. She is very confident when she talks which is commendable because she had get our attention. So, no more comments, all I can say is but wow!

Law student underscore Junk Married Man

Who would believe that a junk man could be a future attorney? That’s not impossible for this man.


He is just an ordinary man from Mindanao who is now a 3rd year law student from the Angeles University Foundation, he is also who a married man who owns a junk shop to feed for his family, I always have a high regard for man who is responsible and does everything for his family (because nowadays, there are man who cannot face the act that they did that would end up as a mess which I highly agree!)
Set your “parameters” (he repeated this word a lot of times, I think it’s for emphasis, yah right!) in life and set also set your goals, aim high and dream high! Never stop believing that everything is possible with the help also of our dear Lord. Prove other people that whatever your status in the society, you could make it to be on top. GROUP 1:

PATRICIA MAMANGON: she told us the life of a true broadcaster, she told us that in the real world you will encounter different persons with different personalities and she said that being a media practitioner is very hard because you have to meet deadlines and you should find a good story. She also said that there are media practitioners who really receive gifts from the politicians, but based on her expirience there are politicians who give her bribes she said that she accept it but her story is still the same. Its up to you if you will change your story or not. That is the big challenged as a media practitioner.

BORJ MENESES: he is the famous photographer now in Pampanga. I always hear his name and see his works and it really amaze me because they were beuatiful and his style is unique. In jis talk he told us on how he srarted photography, before he became a photographer he was a member of a band but the band didnt suceed, then his group joined a art contest in manila representing Pampanga, they won the 1st place. After that many things happened to them they got into drugs and alcohol, until Borj was enlightened, he started a new life and start practicing photography.

GROUP 3:

DJ TYRA: she is a DJ at RW FM. she told us that we need to be patient wiht the things that challenged us. she started with a low posirion at RW until she proved her self. And now she is a sucessful DJ ar RW and stayed there for 10 years. that is her 1st job.


REMEDIOS ANGELES: she was an housekeeper at AUF for 20 years. She was assigned at AUF-PS, she told us that parents knows best for us and we should always listen to them. she also said that we should study hard. Mrs. Remedios didnt finish her studies.


GROUP 5:

BRYAN OSAYAN: kuya Bryan, during his youthful days encpuntered many complication in his life that pushed him to go at the wrong way. ther are people who had been a bad influence to him, they thought him on how to use drugs, gang fight, and etc. He had all the chances to correct his life but he refused the chnaces. he had a family at a young age and now separated.

CHARITY MONETTE: she was a dancer, choreographer and a tearcher all at the sane time. she told us on how to set our goals and know what to prioritize.

Mrs. Remedios was one of my favorite speaker, being faced with difficulties, she still insisted what she believes is best for her son. She worked in AUF for his son to study in AUF. Unfortunately, his son can't take the sight of seeing her mother cleaning Comfort Rooms, his son dropped his subjects. Mrs. Remedios insisted that family always comes first despite of everything else

She said that if you are faced with an opportunity, grab it and never let it slip away. loser, is what she call those who let opportunities pass by.


Group 4


Fred Balduin

He works at Navy hospital in Guam. he admires filipinos for the ability to deal with other co-workers abroad.


Arnel Berato

A law student in AUF. I could never forget this guy, he always say the word, "PARAMETERS" I think in every sentence you will hear him saying that word, hmmm.... he has a point never set your self in low level parameter, because you will hinder yourself doing great things.


Group 5

Mr. Brian Osayan

Kuya Bryan, He's a good friend of mine, hmmm.... seeing kuya brian in our colloquium, i had a big smile on my face. kuya bryan shared his childhood as a bad boy,having lots of vices in life, he even tried using drugs, he had a step father, who understand him in every mistake that he did, but unfortunately kuya bryan realized his mistake, his step father is already dead. now, he emphasize the value of education.


Mr. Paul Gilgen

Achieving your goals by means of aiming high and putting an effort into our work.
these are the ideas that Mr. paul wants us to put in our hearts for us to be sucessful in our lives.

Ms Charity Brenda Monette

If you are a Double Minded Person, you will not be sucessfull in life. i dont really agree to what se said, i believe that its still up to the person on how will he cope up to his situation.

Part III of III

Final colloquium for midterms:

In a shot of misunderstanding, we had three persons speaking before us. First was Brian Osayan, or Kuya Brian to us, also a housekeeping personnel. He told us — also — about his life story. We were pleasantly surprised that he can speak with an American twang, and we found out that he had an American as a stepfather. He told us that the past years he really screwed up in life, repeatedly at that too. But when his stepdad died, it was then he realised what kind of life he lived. So he turned a new leaf, and now, he's fairly happy where he is.

Paul Gilgan is another speaker. A Canadian, and I like what he talked about. His points were on the spot and really crucial in life generally. I also liked how he speak, because even if he is Canadian his accent is flat and we can understand him well. What he told us are like, useful in our quotidian lives.

Last speaker is someone I must say I am disagreeable with. Charity Monette is a dancer and a teacher. When she spoke before us she sort of left questions hanging in the air, I don't know if that was on purpose. What followed were awkward silences. It was unbearable, for me. And she also said something about double-minded people never being successful. I have to disagree with what she said. Others said that Ms Monette must have worded her statement poorly, but from the way she said it, which is full of conviction, I beg to differ. I think she really meant how she said it. She even exhibited a staredown at one of my classmates. I believe that double-minded people still gain success, but only longer or slower than single-minded people, because they have to balance two things at once. They can succeed, yes, but it will take more time. I don't think double-minded people will never succeed. (That's ridiculous, after all, because if you really believe you'll succeed, no matter how many things you juggle at once, as long as you believe, you will succeed.)

Part II of III

Third and fourth colloquia:

The third colloquium was our group's. Remedios Angeles, a housekeeping personnel here in AUF, narrated her story to us as well. I noticed that all the while she was speaking, it's as if tears are threatening to escape from her eyes, and her voice is slightly breaking. What she told us is of great significance, and I'm just thankful that it is all right for her to relay it.

Nina Carla Mendoza, more known as DJ Tyra of DWRW, gave us a lively discussion of anything we asked her. Ranging from program charts to her history to attitudes and lessons — everything she said is a lesson to remember, especially that some of us are an aspiring broadcasters, DJs, and all that jazz. I am glad she was able to speak in front of us.

The fourth colloquium had Arnel Berato and Fred Baldwin for speakers. Arnel Berato is a law student here in AUF. He kept telling us about setting our parametres, which meant that we must lay down our goal and work our way towards it. I asked him a lot about his course, Law, what experiences he's gone through it, and what he can say about the status quo of the politics here in the Philippines.

Fred Baldwin works in Guam. And based on the question we asked to him, I kind of want to visit his country. I am also glad that he thinks highly of Filipinos, too.

Part I of III

The first two colloquia for the Electronic Newsroom 2:

The first group had their speakers — Patricia Mamangun and Borj Meneses. Patricia Mamangun had her talk about being a broadcast journalist. She relayed to us her experiences and whilst narrating some of the instances, I wondered if it was 'financially fulfilling'. Told Kim about this and she asked Ms Mamangun. Ms Mamangun said that it isn't too much, but as long as you love your job, you won't think about that.

Borj Meneses, meanwhile, is, I say, awesome. He has a dry wit, short and succinct. But it is awesome. He discussed his history of his line of work: how he started and why he ended up as what he is now. He exhibited his gallery of glamour photography, and all the while I listened in rapt attention. He is a digital photographer, and he uses Adobe Photoshop; and I use Adobe Photoshop, so I thought I could learn something from him. I asked a bunch of questions, mostly about textures and the resolution of the images. It was awesome.

The second colloquium had the speakers, Rafael Tuazon and Vianca Catangal. Rafael Tuazon is a streetsweeper, and had told his life story. I really have nothing to say except that his story had me thinking deep. Made me rethink my worldview, gained a new perspective, and tucked it in my memories, learning another new lesson.

Mrs Vianca Catangal had me in conscience. What she presented us reminded me that I must visit my dentist again. I learnt a lot about oral hygiene from her, and I am thankful for that.

Mrs. Remedios Angeles

She's a janitress in school. i've seen her many times before because she was assigned in PS building.
What I've learned from her was, 'Listened to your parents because they only want the best for you'.

DJ Tyra

She just advised us to remain humble despite whatever successes you got because what is really countable is the attitude, not the skill. It is important to show how you socialize with the others -otherwise, you might fall down.

Group 2
Rafael Tuazon

He was our group's ordinary speaker. He wasn't actually the first choice. It so happened that the first speaker we had deal 'bout was a yakult vendor. He promised that he'll come but unfortunately, he didn't show up the day we were about to present. So, Mr. Rafael was the second choice we got - a last minute choice.
I didn't hear any word from him because I was busy - we were, actually, assisting the prominent person we got. That's why i can't say much about him. But I had asked Vanessa about him. She told me some few points about his life - just like he had experience how to have a family at the very early age, having a miserable life with his wife. I just felt sorry for him when i heard that. and one thing I had learned from him was, think wisely when deciding cause it might lead you to a situation wherein you can no longer got out.

Mrs. Vianca

She's a dentist. She shared us some of the pictures of her patient who have a poor oral hygiene. She just let us see not for fun but to inform us how bad it would become when we have a poor oral hygiene. Having a healthy teeth is like a treasure. It would boost your self-confidence and sometimes can make you more attractive.

Well, who would not be amazed of 'tis lovely reporter?wherein fact she is handra's cousin?it's not much of a surprise if i've found her quite hilarious.blame it to handra..hahah..seriously, i love her..the way she talks, the humbleness in her face, and the way she cracked jokes..just like Handra again.=>
she speaked as if she was a student again, without any trace of bein' a career woman - with the successed she have. Maybe I'm just likely to fall inlove with those people who shows humbleness. a person who doesn't 'lift their own benches'.

Borj Meneses
I was quite impressed when he showed as the sample pictures of some celebrities just like Jake Cuenca, and some other celebrities whom Im just familiarized with their faces. Though he had mention few of the things about his personal life (whew! mah favorite part,hahah..), it didn't matter because he shared some working experience of his.

She started working for the lowest position at RW. she taught us that through hard work, ones efforts will pay off. what shocked me is she was able to stick to her job for 10 years.

she wasnt able to finish elementary. but with perseverance and goal, she was able to work for 20 years as a house keeper here at AUF. out of love for her family, She was able to wake up day by day to work a man's work.



GROUP 4: FRED BALDWIN


Fred is fond of the filipino people. he said filipinos are hard working and perseverant.

i was amazed with this speaker with his ability to do multi tasks: study, work, and be a husband. what i liked most in his talk is "setting your parameters." the truth is i am dreaming of becoming a lawyer one day. Ü



GROUP 5: PAUL GILGEN, entreprenuer


HE is the BEST SPEAKER for me!!! i learned a lot of things. but what sinked in most is being appreciative in everything you have and everything that is yet to come. his simplicity and lifestyle inspired me to bring out the best in me and do things extraordinarily.now im not afraid to put my bar HIGHER.

kuya Bryan is the typical person who struggled during his youthful years. he was in the wrong crowd, didnt finish highschool, had a family at an early age.
one thing i realize (over and over) is that EDUCATION is every youth's key to their dreams.

Learning from other's experience...

Group 1

Ms Patricia of Infomax was a good speaker because of being a simple person by means of letting us treat her as an ordinary. She tells us her story on how she started working as a media and the things that she do at work and at home. Like, when she's already asleep, the station will call her in the middle of the night for her to cover a news and there are times that when she's eating, she has to bring the food to her because of work. She told us how hard it is to be a news reporter.

Mr. Borj Meneses is a professional photographer in various magazines and ads. I got impressed to him when he showed us some photos that he has taken. It shows passion and love in his work. He can make a good creation from a simple one. He gives meaning to every photos that he takes.

Group 3

Mrs. Remedios Angeles is a janitress here in our school. I see her everyday and I know that even she's old, she's still working for her family. I was touched with her story because she really let us know some of her experiences like she just finished only until grade 4. She advised us to give our best in our studies for us to achieve our dreams.

DJ Tyra is a good speaker because of being confident in sharing her experiences to us. She made the class attentive because of her communication skill. She is very comfortable whenever she talks.

Group 4

Mr. Arnel Berato is a third year law student here in AUF. His motto is "Set your parameters and widen your horizon". He is studying because of his business. His business is a junk shop, and he is proud of it. His goal is to pursue his dreams and finish his law course. I got inspired to his story.

Mr. Fred Baldwin is a foreigner. He told us that filipino's are hard-working and that's what I like about him.

Group5

Mr. Bryan Osayan is AuF's janitor. He tell his story from his childhood until when he's working here at school. I was amazed because his communication skill is better than I thought. He is so inspiring

Mr. Paul Gilgen is a canadian and a really inspiring person because he talked about achieving our goals by means of aiming high and putting an effort into our work so that we will become a better person in the future.

Ms Charity Brenda Monette is so attractive and has a good personality. She is a choreographer and she love to dance. What I remember from her speech was that a double-minded person won't achieve anything, meaning set just one goal and after you have achieve it set another one. I like her.

Life in real world..

1st speaker Mr. Brian Osayan:

He is our janitor in main building..Looking at him,you will think that he has a fine life like others...

But as he speak infront of us,we had learn that he was been given an opportunity by his parent in going to school but he dont really pay any attention to that..at his age now,he has his own family and he works hard for them..Now he realize the value of education..

2nd speaker Mr. Paul :

he is the regular customer of ate mj... He is a Canadian. He gave us advices like:

1. Don’t be afraid to set the bars in your life. Try to set the bars higher thtan yourself. Aim high.

2. Stay Humble in every situation that we are encountering in life..

3. Set some goals and focus on it.

This three values for me is very important to a person..this value could give us a good life for me..

3rd speaker Ms. Charity Moneth:

she is the former student of AUF,.Ske took up BSED. She is also a choreographer of Sinukwan performing arts and a teacher in Shekinah Christian Academy. She said that if it is really your passion and interest go for it..it is where you will find your happiness in life..i believed in her coz as a person you must set your mind in what you really want without forcing you to do it..

The Last Group

In life, we cant really tell or judge a person until we communicate with them. I think the purpose of this colloquim is to widen our listening and understanding skills being a future practitioner.

Different people have different stories to tell. Different lessons to share. But sometimes no matter how the person wants to convey his message it is hard for them to share what they have to share because of absence of good communication skill.

For the last group, I can say that educational background is not the basis of a good speaker.

From the first speaker,Mr. Bryan, I can say that no matter what happen to your life it is still your life and no one is to blame why it happen to have that kind of life you have. Vices and peers are surrounding you yet it is up to you if you let them destroy your life.

From the second speaker, Mr. Gilgan, I can say that there is no regret we have three speakers in one colloquim which is supposed to be only two. Many of the things he mentioned inspired us. But for me the most important and powerful word is "HUMBLE"....I can see in his personality that he is the way he is, I mean, he may able to put himself in the shoe of the other in able for him to reach them. Nowadays, people don't even earned a single peso but acting like they own the University and that is pissing me off! (sorry fo my word).

For the third speaker, Ms. Monette, I am totally disagree of what she is talking about and the way she speak is disturbing like she stop for long period of time we dont know if she want us to guess what her next word is or she just want it like that.

Well, finally the colloquim is over I hope everybody learned from the speakers.

Let Life Amaze You Everyday – 5th group

Mr. Brian M. Osayan

Sometimes, you thought you’re in the right path but then you realize you’re not. This is what Kuya Brian told us. After experiencing the effect of all his wrong decisions, he realized he’s in the wrong path. So, he told us to, he be careful in choosing what life we want. “You can never get back what you’ve lost”, he said.

Mr. Paul Gilgen

Mr. Paul inspires us with 1O quotes:

1. Try to find something that you really love to do. Always pursue what you want and find happiness in it. Life is too beautiful to live.

2. Set the bar high for yourself. Always aim higher than you’d expected.

3. Stay humble. Always keep your feet on the ground and remember the people who became part of your success.

4. Set some goals. Focus on your dreams to have direction in life.

5. Attract more bees with honey.

6. Good communication skill. If you’re good in English, you can easily interact with other people. You can have many friends.

7. Try to make a lifetime commitment to fitness. Always make time for your health.

8. Let life amaze you everyday. Learn to appreciate little things in life. Find happiness in simple things like appreciating your everyday routine. When you wake up in the morning, be amaze on the wind blowing, the flowers blooming, and the heat of the sun. In that simple way you could learn to love life.

9. Qualities vs. Quantities. It’s better to have few friends but true than having many friends but betray you.

10. Always try to keep your sense of humor. This is the best gift you have that could share to others.

Charity Brenda Monette

“Focus on one thing in your life” as Ms. Charity said. She believes that double-minded person will never ever succeed. She also shares her teaching experiences. “It’s hard to be a teacher because we are dealing life”, she said. I’ve realized that her profession needs concentration and dedication. What she’s going to teach can make a big difference to her students. Whatever comes out in her mouth can affect their lives. Whatever she says, the students will believe her. It’s not easy but then she finds it very rewarding in her part. “Being a teacher is hard but very rewarding especially when you see your students being successful in their chosen career”, she said.

MR. FRED BALDWIN was a good speaker. He told many things about his job. how he loves entertaining new applicants. how he manages his time and his dedication to his work. i felt good when he said that filipinos are very kind and hard working. It made me realize that we still have lots of things to be proud of.we asked a lot of questions about his salary and if its the same with filipinos and he said yes.he said that as long as your doing your job well you will earn from it. i like the way he speak and the way he said thanks when they gave him the token.=)


MR.ARNEL BERATO is a law student. wow..my dream.=) its the main reason why i listened to him attentively. i wanted to ask a lot a stuffs about taking law.i cant forget his PARAMETER.=) he said we need to set our parameters..and that parameter will led you to success and a lot more! he inspired me in some ways.. he's married.. working and at the same time studying. i wondered if i can do the same.=)well i guess we filipinos are really hard working! its good to hear other people's lives..it broadens my mind to a lot more posibilities in life.

At Last!

This is the last colloquium together with Sir David Wallis.

Ø 1st speaker (Mr. Brian Osayan)
We often call him as “Kuya Brian” because he always helps us whenever we have a production. This speaker shared his experiences and struggles in life. He showed us how really hard to live as a single parent so he emphasized to us that education really matters.

Ø 2nd speaker (Mr. Paul Gilgen)
This speaker is Mary Jane’s regular customer in restaurant where she works at. He is a Canadian in nature. He is an ordinary person in the Philippines but in Canada, he is a business tycoon. He gave advices to us: (1) Don’t be afraid to set the bars in your life. Try to set the bars higher thtan yourself. Aim high. (2) Stay Humble in every situation encountered in life. (3) Set some goals and have to be focus on it.

Ø 3rd speaker (Ms. Charity Moneth)
She graduated at AUF of BS Education, TOS Awardee Performing Arts 2003, an active member and choreographer of Sinukwan performing arts and a teacher in Shekinah Christian Academy. I think she is very proud in herself in spite of her color. One word I would remember from her, “FOCUS”.

One thing I learned from this speaker, just know where you from and know how to mingle with others specially your co-workers.

This speaker is an active DJ from RW 95 Keni Naka, she gives us a lesson that do not mess all the opportunity that passes in your life because this opportunity will knocks only one. Good job…

“Set your parameters and widen your horizon”, this is the thought for this day. This is according to Mr. Arnel Berato, third year law student here in AUF. Having an own business and married person, he pursue to finish his study as a lawyer someday. Having ambition or dream in life is not bad just believe in the power of your dreams and survive.

Life is a matter of choice.-5th group.

**he thought he was doing the right things. he was so self centered that he forgot those people who loves him. KUYA BRYAN made me realize that you'll never know your on the wrong path unless you're really into it. so we have to be really careful with our decisions. a simple yes may change everything. it can make you suffer for the rest the of your life. and no matter how hard it may seem, things will be better if you stick with your family. good friends matters but your life still depends on you and your decisions.


**"don't forget to set the bar high for yourself." its a quote from MR.PAUL. he told us many things about life. He said that the key to good life is to dream bigger work harder and to enjoy every moment and try to remain humble.Don't just accept everything that comes in your life. you have to think and weigh every situation. He was a good speaker and listening to him made me really inspired.=)



**"the future depends on me." MS.CHARITY BRENDA MONETTE as a teacher believes that her profession makes a difference. She was so high spirited and very sure of her self and her beliefs. She stressed out that double minded persons will never succeed. i honestly didn't agree with her but it gave me a second thought that it will be better if you set your goal into one thing and focus.she said that if you don't know what you want..you'll reach nothing.and it made me realize that i have to make my mind soon. i have to be sure of what i want for my future.=)

Fruits of Colloquiums

Group 3

Sacrifice. Perseverance. Sincerity. Love. These, I may say, are the primary values that I learned from Mrs. Remedios. She shared to us how she loved her child that she chose to be a janitress to allow her son to study in auf. She wanted to give her loved ones a good life so she never stopped working and was always inspired by her sincere love to her family.

Dj Tyra was a good speaker. Maybe because I'm interested with her topic, i.e. radio broadcasting. Most important thing I learned from her is to never ever allow yourself to miss opportunity but instead grab it and work hard for it because we can do it.

Group 4

Mr. Fred Baldwin works in GUam. With his speech, it lessened my negative notions towards the country because he share to us how he admires Filipino workers abroad.

Mr. Arnel Berato, though he was not that good in delivering his speech, he taught us to hold tight with our dreams and achieve it by making plans and focusing so much to attain it.

Group 5

Kuya Bryan, a maintenance aid in AUF, has opened our eyes to the badness brought by vices and bad barkadas. I was so glad that he was able to inspire us to draw ourselves away from vices, troubles, and bad barkadas. He taught us not to waste the chance that we have right now to establish a good future.

Paul, a Canadian, was a good speaker. I said he was good because he delivered his speech with a good logical flow. He tod us to stay humble but always set our goals higher thatn what we think we could.

Charity has a high intimidating power in the way she talks. Though I guess she was not that prepared with what to say, she imperted to us the fulfillment that we can get through sharing what we know and what we have to other people.

Bryan - 1st speaker of the 5th colloquium

The first speaker of the colloquium was Kuya Bryan, the maintenance aid in AUF. We knew kuya Brayan as a nice guy because he always helps us when we need him especially when were using the auditorium. This guy has a good heart and dedication in life.


Paul - 2nd speaker of the 5th colloquium

The second speaker was Paul from Canada. He’s a businessman and a hardworking person. I loved how he delivered his speech to us of being humble in what you are even if you attained almost everything.


Charity Monette - 3rd Speaker of the 5th colloquium

I knew Mam Charity because she choreographed our dance when I joined the cultural competition. I can say that she’s one of the people that I admired because of her incredible talent in dancing. She inspired me in many ways, she taught me on how to be a good and disciplined dancer. I’ve learned so much when I meet her. She is an inspiration to everyone.
