MASS COMMUNICATION and all that

It was a blast! Well, almost. The whole event was perfect except for the power interruption which is not within our control. I guess this just shows that nothing could really be so perfect in this world. Anyway going back, I enjoyed listening to our speakers even though it was so hot. I hate it when people say that “mass communication is being mas kompartable sa bahay.” Shame on them. They don’t what they are saying. Because if they really do understand what mass communication means, they wouldn’t say that. I wonder how boring the world is if there is no media and communication. Oh well, I’ll share some of my learnings and realizations from the colloquium:

1. We should always improve on what we have. Never be satisfied with what you know. Every single day is new; it is an opportunity to learn something new as well. Keep the thirst of knowledge alive, and of course, nourish our thirst. In our world, if you will just be complacent and relaxed, you wouldn’t survive. Welcome to the survival of the fittest!

2. Whatever we have right this very moment, we should bank on them. They serve as our investment now and our tool in the future. Whatever it is that we know, they will be of big help when we go to the real world. We need the things we learn in school, maybe not all but some of it. That is why there is need for us to prioritize our schooling.

3. I’m the type of person whose priorities are set. I know what I want and I work hard to achieve it. I know when to get serious and when to have fun and how to have fun. I know how to balance things. I do my best to get good grades not for myself, but for my parents who are working so hard to provide me with a good education and a wonderful life. By studying well, I am showing my gratitude to them and I am ensuring my self of a good future.

As much as I would like to continue sharing, I’ll stop there and give chance to others for I know they have other things to say too. I hope that everything we learned in the colloquium will leave a mark in our hearts. I also hope that we would be able to give justice to our course. That is to be more creative, more innovative and more dedicated. Think and step out of the box. May we be able to find the EXTRAordinary in the ordinary! Oh before I forget, mass communication is not being mas komportable sa bahay. It is mas komplikado because of the opportunities it brings to our lives.

PREMONITON

I'm sitting at the set waiting for the colloquium to start.

are the guest arriving or what?:)

It’s over and done. That were the exact words that I uttered after our recently held SAMASKOLLOQUIUM: a peek in the future. At our planning, I have a premonition that our colloquium will have some technicalities because some of the speakers fail to submit their profiles on time. But on the day of our colloquium, I was delighted that the program runs smoothly. On the gloomy side, the power disruption ruined the fluidity of the whole event. I think it’s very difficult to focus when you’re fanning yourself out of the terrible heat inside the room. The speaker that were invited are good, they catered the event’s theme: a peek in the future.

This is our 2nd production wherein we need to work as a class, though not everyone exerted the same effort, I’m confident to say that we worked as one.

SAMASKOLOQUIUM

Our first ever Samaskoloquium was very successful, all of us has done a great job, to be able to come up with this event and invite some alumni of Mass Communication, with some students as our audience.

I was inspired by our speakers who already had their job and all the barriers they have encountered. One of the speaker said, that the course Mass Communication is not just about the fields, it how you work really hard to achieve whatever you want to reach. It was a good experience being part of this, listening to all the speakers ang getting some points to remember, inspired with their experiences. Job well done to us all ABMC 3.

SAMASKOLLOQUIUM

The first ever SAMASKOLLOQUIUM conducted by the last batch of Mass Communication is a very big success despite of “unnatural behavior” of the electric power that day. The audience are participated in the open forum especially the 1st yr communication students. They are really eager to ask questions to our alumni and some of them even get disappointed when they did not call to ask a question.

“It’s not always the fields; Mass Communication can offer you many job opportunities.”

This is what I’ve learned in our colloquium last March 21, 2009. It was Melford Cunanan, graduate of Mass Communication and a highschool teacher who said the quote. Indeed it was right. As a student of Mass Communication, I am so worried about my future whether I can get a job on my preferred course. But as I listen to them more carefully, I realized that I can get a job even if I’m not going to pursue Mass Communication. It’s just that if we have some skills outside the field of our course; hone them so we can use it someday in the real world. We don’t need to worry much about our future because like what I’ve read in some article of a mass communication student too, “hangga’t may komunikasyon, may trabaho ang estudyante ng mass communication kaya kool ka lang.”

It is something different, yet very important.

the whole idea was great..
we were all able to understand our questions regarding our course.
and we were able to know more of what is waiting for us.
I really love my course and it just made me realize
(because of the speakers) that i made the right decision.

I like the idea that anyone can get into out field
so you have to prove that you're better because you are trained to do it.
And I'm really glad that we are trained to speak English more than other courses does.
I agree with our speakers that it is very important to be fluent in English.
And I'm using it now since I'm working in as an online teacher.=)

Hard work and patience is what sticked to my mind most.
I believe that our speakers reached their goal, and will soar higher, because of their patience.

this COLLOQUIUM made us more responsible.
without the help of everyone it wouldn't be a success!
It felt good to realize that students are coming to see what we prepared.
Specially when they are hurrying to sign at our guest list.=). ^.^

LOOKING THROUGH THEIR EYES, YET.

SAMASKOLLOQUIUM, held on March 21, 2009 at Angeles University Foundation, PS Building, was unforgettable for most of us, AB Mass Communication junior students. It was the first time we're having colloquium to which we've invited alumni masscomm students from AUF.

From the concept-making, guest-inviting, and the whole process of planning the colloquium, most of us (if not ALL), participated, cooperated, and contributed to the class project. Marjorie and Cris gave their best as project leaders to make it all organized and smooth on the actual day. Although we failed to anticipate the probable power supply problem, I can proudly say that the day still went out the way we wanted it to be-that is to inform us of how it is to be masscomm graduates, actually.

Our audience were all SAMASKOM members, from the first level up to the fourth. Our guest speakers were the highlight of the entire colloquium, and they did not fail to inform us of how it is to be masscomm graduates.

Among the guests that spoke there and shared their experiences, Melford stood out, for me. He just blurted out what he wanted to say; what was right for him and what he really thinks about the course he's taken and we (audience) are actually taking.

All the other guests gave their share of experiences, believing it would somehow help us look at our future, through their eyes, yet. It was very encouraging to see them speak to us with great enthusiasm about their jobs. Yes, it's not all money. It's not all passion either. It's all about opportunities; making the most out of them. That is what I've learned from them.

Thanks to our guest speakers, audience, and Dean. To my ABMC 3 class, congratulations. Thank you also to our professor, Mrs. Virgie Bautista, for the knowledge and wisdom shared, support, and everything else we could not name anymore. :)

"The Seers"

We all became seers at that very day.

21th of March 2009, our eyes had a glimpse of the future. Most eyes are afraid of what to see comes the unexpected years. Our eyes aren't exempted from that. We're afraid of uncertainties. Yet, luckily, we have seen a sketch of what's to come. We have peeked into the future. Such an opportunity has diminished our naive nature because it has equipped us of anticipation thus resulting to our careful preparation for our tomorrow's welfare.

The 1st ever samaskolloquium, though was not perfect in the aspect of conduciveness, comfortability, and duration of discussion for each speaker, has certainly allowed the overflowing of seeds of inspiration and learnings.

Moreso, it has allowed students, for once, to become, SEERS.

Thank you classmates for this sem and congratulations for a job well done.

Money over passion

After all Mass communication is not all about broadcast, advertising and Pr. It is about enjoying your job and all. Be practical.. Melford Cunanan, a Mass Comm graduate now a high school teacher. He chose to be a teacher because according to him "walang pera sa journalism" which is true. We don't know what is in stored for us after graduation. Maybe our job is totally different with what we have studied in college. Yes,we should grab the opportunities. Who knows we will be successful in our chosen field even though it is not in line with our course.

Mga Kamaskom!

I'm sweating and feels irritated that day. I thought of going home and just sleep. The day is so ridiculous because of on-and-off electric power within the city. Though, the moment the program started, I was alarmed and got awake as I saw the speakers gathering in front with different personalities which really makes the day interesting than irritating.

Almost 10 speakers shared their insights at PS517 that day. Most of them inspired me to set a huge goal while studying so I could have a better future.

Future, this is the term that lots of them talked about. How they make it through from college until their present job. Some of them mentioned that, while you're still in college, make the most out of it, not literally being a happy-go-lucky person but being an organization-oriented person. This, they believe will be a huge help when applying for a job when you graduated because the abilities that you want to develop could be heightened because of social interaction. That statement waked me up because I only have one organization as of now, the SAMASKOM.

Moreover, through that realization, I thought of joining the CAS ideas next semester so that I could increase my assets when I am applying for a job. But that's not just the reason why I am joining the CAS ideas, I want to be a part of it because I want to write or I want to be a sports writer in my college department.

That is one of the things that came across my mind when listening to the alumni. Indeed, if I let my self lose with the laziness I feel by going home and sleep, I wouldn't realize the true movements in the real world and I wouldn't have a plan to give my life a clear path or direction before graduating and even after graduating.

Thanks to the alumni who brought their knowledge and shared their experiences to their fellow KAMASKOM. Also, a non-stop thank you to the one who made this program possible, Ma'am Virgie! =)

the first SAMASkolokium was handled by ABMC3, the last batch of mass comm at AUF.

it was really good to see former students from our course and school talking in front of us about their experiences after studying.

"it is what you know and not who you know." said Marie Fi Cabatingan, a mother of two.
she is really right that in the real world, it is not who we know that will make us achieve high things in life instead, it's what we have in our brains and our good values that will lead us to success.

i enjoyed the colloquium because of the speakers and also due to the unity of ABMC3 to make the event successful.

yesterday,we students dont know what we will be, but tomorrow's success is certain if we will do well today.

samaskolloquium 2009

I am under documentations committee. I take pictures and observations to what the speakers would relay to us. Basically, they are all good and I learned something new from every speaker. But if I will to rate them, I will definitely choose Ms. Karen as the best speaker. Well, aside from the fact that she is an undergrad, she was able to prove herself by still applying was she had learned in the academe in her nature of work.

Melford is still blunt. I knew him since high school and he was the same Melford I knew. Apart from having his job as a high school teacher in an exclusive school, he was the same Melford who used to say what he wanted to say. Walang pera sa journalism. Sorry ma'am Virgie. He is still practical, yet I know that he had improved a lot. A lot.

To all other speakers, I am looking forward to see and probably work to any of them.

To my classmates, to the whole ABMC3.Well congrats to all of us. I may say that we really improve since our first stay in school. We are now working hard and unanimously to make every event a success. We all deserve a good break after the long tiring day of hardwork.

To ma'am V., thank you so much for teaching us what we have to learn and what we had learned..

A PEEK TO THE FUTURE Samaskolloquim 09

Our first ever Samaskolloquim is a success. From the planing of the program, to choosing the guest and interaction of the masscomm, AB comm student and the alumni. This Samaskolloquim help us know what to expect in the future and we have learn alot of words of wisdom to our guest speakers. I remember Kuya Mike saying ''MassComm is not just focus on broadcasting, P.R. or advertising. Because after you graduate you do not know what is in store for you''. Which is true we don't know if the job we will get in the future will be in line with our course. Like Kuya Melford now he is a teacher in Brightwoods and soon to be in the Banking Industry. I remember him saying If I didn't accept this job what will I get later on. Grab the opportunity that is given to you. There is this one question that the 1st year ask to the speaker. He ask if looking for a job is a hell like experience to them? They all said yes but told us to be confident, focus on the skills we have, and be willing to learn because learning is a continuous process. They even recognized Maam Virgie for teaching or training us for being globally competitive. But my favorite speakers are Ate Karen and Mr. Peter Alagos. Ate Karen share to us that back in college she is under achiever, she only took mass comm to stay away from math but in the end she learn to appreciate and love her coarse. She is now a language trainer in Sutherland her accent and diction is very good and is very confident. I like her personality. While our last speaker is Mr. Peter Alagos who advice us to prioritized writing, Its not all about Manila or Money and last but not the least "learn to give back" he told us once you have learn, once you have gain experience go back to Pampanga and give back which really hit me. All in all the Samaskolloqim is a huge success I have learn alot from the speakers.

A year and three to four month later, I will graduate and study English more in my own land to master my ability in English. The last weeks ‘SAMASKOLLOQUIUM’ strengthen my idea of pursuing my English study more.

It was Ms Yoon who mentioned about the importance of good quality English training; that in real world, highly educated English speaker with proper and just English is needed and valued most; that the best way to improve oneself quality is mastering English.

I am agreeing this very much. I am here for this long period of time to learn English in better place, and to earn myself title of Good Quality English user. And I am pretty sure, that most of alien students coming in this land of Filipinos are aiming same goal as I have.

Yes, learning better English was all ways and still is my main goal, and I just can’t accept my self with now situation; that I am mostly frozen when I have to speak up. So, my plan for life is to learn more English after my graduation, and fulfill my first life’s goal.

To do this, I should study more, and for this, I need my co-students to keep up the speaking of English. Ms Yoon also mention that to help classmate and him/herself to learn better English is speaking each other in English always, not only to foreigners but to the homies too.

This I believe so true, and I am willing to speak up that I want to learn better English, so my friends, please help me and be merciful with me. I may speak wrong and use wrong words, may confuse of using the verbs. So, please correct me and not just laughing at my errors. I want to speak like one of you.

After two month we are going to be senior, I still can not believe I been this country 3years and I will soon leave this university that give me a lot of memory. I am kind of afraid where I am going and what career I can choose, it is kind of like I lost my life .you know economic crisis and huge population make the opportunity of job as not easy to find as before in china .
There is old saying in china ‘it is not you to choose the job, it is the job to choose you’ I was confused by it, but after the SAMASKOLLOQUIUM ,I think I can get some confidence from these speaker .
The first three speakers give me a lot suggestion from the experience they have .
‘Mass communication include a lot of career’ said by melford gunana, he is teacher of high school, he was top 10 students in Philippine, brilliant background make him brilliant everywhere, he talked a lot about how to choose career and make decision.
Michel is the second speaker, he tell us ‘mass communication not only about broadcast, advertising and PR but also some career you never touched before,it doesn’t matter what course you are now but what course you will do ,focus on what you are good at and extend it .’ he is marketing manager now what he doing now is totally different with what he study in college .that encourage me a lot .
JOOWON YOON is Korean girl, she graduate last year, she keep saying that the importance of the English and as foreign student she taught me how to adjust this country and she mention that she wants get master degree.
That forum makes me really think about my future and demand me cherish the day I have before graduate, 365days it will be soon to gone ,I do not want just stay my home because I can find any job. My parents give me free food last 21years when I need so when they becoming old I should have the capability to make them happy as I was .

SAMASKOLLOQUIUM

I don't have many word to say about this, other classmates will present them to all readers, hehe.

But their experiences were really give us, as the becoming senior, guideline, to find out selves special talent, maybe someone can handle all aspects of communication, but that kind of person is rarely, and based on those speakers, I realized that the situation limits graduates' choice, and opportunity can change or shift your original goal, if graduate can enjoy that situation, he/she can make it better, even best; if not, he/she can change his/her job depending on situation.

But no matter how people will be changed in the future life, people should know how to protect selves' rights and national dignity. Because living outside home country your behavior represents your country, and you have right to protect it, or change foreigner's attitude's about your country through your behaviors.

When we graduate, it's time to face the society, competition is everywhere, we should well evaluate personal talent, set a rational bar for self to jump, and also must improve selves' talents for promoting or finding a better job. "Opportunity is ready for well prepared person."

I am appreciating this colloquium, we prepared very well, even if we encountered problems, the guests didn't complain troubles, and continuously shared their experiences, time is so limited, if we can give them free, I am sure that we can learn more from them.

I'm a music lover, i love listening, composing and especially singing. the moment i wake up i sing and before go to bed i sing.... this year i bought an ipod, i like the idea that i can carry it anytime,anywhere. i treat my ipod as my baby because i take care of it so much and i will not let anything happen to it. i treat it as my bestfriend also because it is always with me and it relieves my stresses.

It means no matter how much pain you experience because of failure you have to everything and start all over again and don't ever QUIT.

First we should accept what happened and then acceptance is the first step in order to start a new life. after acceptance we should plan and set our goals for our life and last we should follow what plans we've made.
